Staines child development program

Workshops are the core of the Staines program.

Specific activities and play opportunities are highlighted as supportive of the child’s needs and different stages of development.

However the area of most importance is the relationship between parent and child, and this forms the basis of all workshops.

Current research is used to highlight the ‘science’ of what we know – ie that brain growth is stimulated by safe interactions with loved ones.

Early work was done around one to one counselling, but now the program has evolved and the preferred method of delivery is by a range of workshops, with our Staines worker, Angela Stephenson working collaboratively with various agencies.

The five core workshops are:

  • Playing without Paying
  • Stop, Think, Go
  • Squirmy Wormies: Kids on the Go
  • Playpower: Making the most of everyday moments
  • What Children Learn from Us
  • Dinner Dance

HomeGym has been introduced more recently to use homemade/household materials and equipment to explore the physical side of children’s development,

If you feel the area in which you work could benefit from the Staines program, please make contact with the Centre.
